Cambridge & Counties Bank, which launched in June last year targeting established small to medium sized enterprises (“SMEs”), has recently appointed Carl Ashley as Business Development Manager.
Ashley, who has 27 years’ experience in the SME banking space, will be responsible for managing the Banks’ appointed national brokers and will also cover Northamptonshire, one of the heartland regions.
Gary Wilkinson, chief executive at Cambridge & Counties Bank said: “We’re delighted to welcome Carl at a time when our business is thriving. Carl brings with him a wealth of experience as well as a strong reputation, both of which will be great assets to the bank as we look to develop our presence both regionally and nationally.
“We have already started lending to a number of businesses across a wide range of sectors and have been encouraged by the quality of businesses that have approached us for loans so far.”
Prior to joining the bank, Ashley was employed at Yorkshire Bank where he had spent his entire career to date. He has spent the last 17 years based in the East Midlands where he has worked closely with brokers as well as leading a successful team of business and private managers and support staff. Ashley has developed an extensive network of business and professional contacts, including brokers.
He said: “This is a very exciting time to be joining Cambridge & Counties Bank. The Bank has already gained a strong reputation and there is tremendous potential to partner with good quality businesses in the area. It is ideally placed to drive growth in the SME community.”
Cambridge & Counties Bank has a unique structure being jointly owned by Cambridgeshire Local Government Pension Fund and Trinity Hall, a College of the University of Cambridge. They each own 50% of the bank, which has a strong management team led by Wilkinson who has held a number of senior roles in the banking and building society sectors.
The bank places a significant focus on developing a partnership type relationship with clients through being easy to do business with and by focusing on plain English and transparency.
Cambridge & Counties Bank uses a local personalised relationship approach consisting of business development managers focusing primarily on its heartland regions of Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire and Leicestershire, coupled with a national broker coverage model. This will allow balanced growth across geographies, market sectors and property types, avoiding inappropriate concentration risk.
