Alderley Edge based tailor, Harris & Howard Bespoke, has found the ideal candidate to suit its business development needs thanks to a ‘How to Hire and Keep Good People’ training course from Bury-based business specialist, MLP Training.
Matthew Boothsby has been appointed as the new business development manager at Harris & Howard Bespoke, which offers home or office visits to measure clients for custom-made suits, made at its Alderley Edge showroom.
Matthew, who has a background in high end luxury retail, was one of several candidates to apply for the role. Harris & Howard Bespoke director, Carl Emery, attended the MLP course between the first and second interviews, helping him to make the right decision by the end of the interview process.
Carl said: “We have worked with MLP for several years and their input has helped the company grow from a start-up three years ago to the thriving business it is today.
“We offer a very exclusive service and a quality product to customers that have exacting standards, so it’s important for us to find the right candidates for all roles. The MLP training course helped us to articulate exactly what we were looking for and ask the right questions, so instead of selling the role to the candidates, we were able to identify the best person for the job.”
The one-day course focuses on helping companies to select, motivate and retain the best people for the job and provides delegates with practical tools for designing a job specification, interviewing candidates and gaining a true picture of each applicant’s previous professional performance.
Comments Mike Le Put, director of MLP: “Lots of companies know what they want from a candidate but spend more time explaining the role than they do finding out if the candidate has the skills and attributes to meet their requirements.
“Our approach is to help companies implement a process and for many SMEs that don’t have an HR department those tools can be invaluable.”
