Wright Solutions are teaming up with real-life hostage negotiator Richard Mullender to deliver two Negotiation in Business seminars in Birmingham City Centre on 19th October 2016. During the seminar delegates will learn to understand the structure underlying all negotiations and the barriers that are present, as well as learning the skills required to carry out effective negotiations - learning how a real-life hostage negotiator applies his skills to business negotiations.
Wright Solutions are established, expert executive recruiters and providers of specialist training with over twenty years experience. They have teamed up with real-life hostage negotiator Richard Mullender to bring the worlds of hostage negotiation and business negotiation together.
Richard Mullender worked as a detective for the metropolitan police, where he investigated serious crimes, before training to become a hostage negotiator. Throughout his career Mullender has been involved with a number of large scale negotiations including contributing to the the high-profile release of three UN workers held hostage by the Taliban in Afghanistan in 2004.
His skills were so well regarded that he was appointed Lead Trainer at Scotland Yard's National Hostage and Crisis Negotiation Unit and has since delivered negotiation training for the public and private sector and law enforcement agencies (including The Federal Bureau of Investigation (F.B.I), as well as acting as an advisor for numerous international government bodies - including The United Nations.
Mullender believes that “There are parallels between business and hostage negotiation” and puts exceptional listening skills as the basis of effective negotiation; “exceptional listening skills help you to discover the values and beliefs that underpin what the other person is saying to you. You can then use this understanding to influence and persuade” he says.

Wright Solutions’ Negotiation in Business seminars will be held on 19th October 2016 in Birmingham City Centre. The first will be a breakfast event and will run from 8am until 10am. The second is a lunchtime event and will be held between 12pm and 2pm. During the seminars delegates will get an insight into how a real-life hostage negotiator applies his skills to business negotiations, learning the power to listen, understand and influence.
