We all have dreams, and as they say, if they don’t make people laugh they simply aren’t big enough.
Although what is the best way to achieve them? Well here is what works for me:
1. Set yourself a goal
It really is a case of first thing's first, and of course you have to be in it to win it. Every year's Apprentice prompts the same questions: “Just how did you get on the show?” Answer - I set myself goals — one of them — applying in the first place!
2. Apply yourself to the goal - Make yourself accountable
I made sure that when I applied I told a few people that I had done so to make sure that I would follow it up and they would motivate by asking me how it was all going.
3. Commit to your goal - make the goal tangible, an actual visual reality
The next thing I did was put up a picture of the Gherkin as my screen saver so I could see my goal every day. I also started to watch old episodes on YouTube to prove to myself that I was very capable of getting onto the show and showcasing my talents to the nation.
4. Put your goals within reach - take breaks to maintain motivation
The audition process was tough, one of the toughest things I have ever done including two days of back to back of role play scenarios and psychiatric evaluation - which actually turned out to be tougher than the process itself. I made sure that I booked a hotel with a pool and a gym so that I could exercise and relax in the evenings, clear my head and keep my eye on the prize. I can’t say how much taking breaks and exercise has helped me in achieving goals not only in my career but also in my personal life.
5. Don't burn yourself out - reward yourself for that goal
When you have followed these simple steps and achieved your goal remember to reward yourself - or what's the point?
As soon as I found out I had a guaranteed place on The Apprentice I booked a week in Las Vegas as a reward and enjoyed every minute of it! WORK HARD, PLAY HARD!
Why not make yourself accountable and tweet me your goals?
Good luck and remember to have fun along the way!
