I am not usually an X Factor fan although last week I tuned in to watch the 30th anniversary single of band aid to help raise funds for the ebola crisis and I was deeply touched by the whole thing.
It was amazing to see so many pop stars come together to help raise money for an amazing cause and made me respect all of them even more.
I was lucky enough to be brought up to realise the importance of giving and sharing and was always made to write out the list of presents I wanted to buy people for Christmas before I was allowed to write out the ones I wanted to receive and this did me the world of good as an individual and of course helped me realise the value of money.
I personally believe that the power of giving is a massive contributor to happiness in our lives and of course comes around full circle and when we are generous we don’t only benefit from it as individuals but with our sales figures too.
I was recently asked by the charity Bolton Lads and Girls Club which is attended by 3,500 young people a week to help them by climbing Kilimanjaro to raise essential funds, after I said yes I included the link to my just giving page to my email signature and have so far been pledged some amazing offers of sponsorship and has triggered some great conversations that have led to some amazing opportunities. We do not give to receive at all although I do believe that if we do give we will in turn receive and feel brilliant about ourselves as a by-product.
As sales professionals it is important to build relationships with our customers that last and there is no better way to make someone feel valued than to offer them a gift, whether that be added value to a sale or a complete out of the blue prezzie just for the sake of it!
We should all stop for a second and take a minute to realise how amazing we feel when someone makes the gesture of a well thought out gift……………there you go! So what are you waiting for? I have just secured an amazing “groupon busting” deal with a brand new Spa Hotel to offer every one of my 15 team a free overnight stay and evening meal in January which I know will go down a treat as a Christmas present, is tax efficient and will give every member of my team a well needed break in the new year to maintain motivation, keep productivity at a maximum and build on an already great relationship between us, overall making everyone feel great in the process!
The balance sheet is super important as we all know but it is even better for our teams work and personal life to be balanced which will in turn achieve great results.
It’s nice to be nice but you know what? It’s brilliant to be brilliant!
Keep in touch
